I started these by stamping the little penguins on Neenah Solar White 80# cardstock with Gina K. Amalgam ink. I colored these little guys with my Copics, including a little yellow on the bottom of his belly. I won't lie, I saw Laura Bassen do it and I loved how it looked so I stole the idea. Do you follow Laura? If you don't you really should. She makes some fantastic cards, and if rainbows are your thing she's your gal!
Once I had these little guys all colored up I did some fussy cutting and used Kelly's trick for outlining them with a little Momento marker to cover the white edges. We all know I love Kelly Latevola, if you're new and you didn't know, now you do. You should follow her too!
I did some stamp surgery on the sentiment. Also a bit of a first for me, because I've never cut a stamp apart before. The shock, I know! I needed it to fit in that cute bubble and I just wasn't getting the results I wanted masking part of the words to stack the sentiment.
Shall we talk about the elephant in the room? I know a few of you might be wondering why only one of these guys has a heart on his chest. Well, the deal is it's covering a little bit of an ink smudge. After all that coloring, I wasn't gonna toss him, so heart to match the hat it is. I'll give the credit for this idea to my Bestie. I sent her a pick and she said, "just die cut a heart and cover it up." We all need a little genius in our lives now an then. Love her.
To complete the cards I die cut pale gray panels and snagged some older pattern paper from my stash that matched each hat. I layered them up all pretty on a pale gray card base, using foam tape to pop the penguin and sentiment up.
