MFT Card Challenges: The Birthday Project

On Thursday, My Favorite Things opened up a brand new challenge - The Birthday Project.  The challenge was to use the word Celebrate, stamped or die cut, on a card to celebrate birthdays leaving no question as to the reason for your greeting.   If you're interested in playing along you can find all of the details about the Birthday Project Challenge are available on the MFT Challenge & Inspiration blog.  If you choose to play along, you might win $50 MFT Gift voucher.

I knew exactly which card I wanted to link up to this challenge.  I made this card for a special friends Birthday earlier this month.  

Embossing resist is my go-to technique, especially when my creativity needs a jump start.  This card started as just a background to play with ink combinations.  I use Ranger Distress Inks and Distress Oxide Inks for all my ink blending.  It's an addiction or maybe a fetish.  I'll let you decide.  This combo is Tumbled Glass, Broken China, and Mermaid Lagoon.

Once the panel was created I mounted it on a navy blue card base.  I stamped the birthday greeting with VersaMark ink onto a navy banner and embossed it with WOW white embossing powder, then mounted the banner to the panel.

The finishing touch and focal point of the card is the die cut word "celebrate", cut using the MFT celebrate die.  I covered the die in VersaMark Ink and add WOW Under the Sea Embossing Glitter.  I finished the card by adding this beautiful glittered word to the card just above the banner.
